Colville Lake Project
In 2004 Burnstone Ventures (formerly Pure Diamonds) entered into an agreement with De Beers Canada to earn an 85% working interest in approximately 5.9 million acres in the Mackenzie River area of the Northwest Territories. This permit block was acquired by De Beers as a result of positive kimberlite indicator mineral discoveries from stream sediment surveys. The Colville Lake Project is located just south of the Lena West Project, where Diamondex has spent over $15 million and continues aggressive exploration. The other major participant on this area is Sanatana Diamonds with a large land position to the north and east of the Colville Lake Property.
To date Burnstone Ventures (formerly Pure Diamonds) has completed over 100,000 line kilometers of airborne and ground magnetic, EM and gravity surveys and over 1400 line kilometers of till sampling for kimberlite indicator minerals. This has resulted in the identification of numerous targets that will be tested in due course by drilling. At the conclusion of the 2006 program Burnstone Ventures (formerly Pure Diamonds) anticipates that it will have met the expenditure requirements to earn the 85% interest after which a Joint Venture will be formed between the company and De Beers. Exploration in 2006 included completion of the airborne survey over the permit block, further kimberlite indicator mineral sampling and finally, follow up ground geophysics over selected targets. At the end of 2006 the exploration permits expired and mineral claims were staked to cover all targets of interest. Once the data from the 2006 program has been reviewed a decision will be made concerning follow up exploration, which is expected to include drill testing of selected priority anomalies.
